Not that I really post here enough to need the upgrade, but I like having the newest and the greatest… So I upgraded from WP 2.6.whatever to 2.7. The upgrade went smoothly, but at first I was a little confused. After I logged in, I could see the interface overhaul, but had no menu for widgets, plugins, etc. I only saw controls for creating new posts.

It took me a minute of clicking around and wondering what I had done wrong before I remembered that I had the Admin Menu Dropdown plugin installed. Basically, it hid the normal WordPress menu and displayed a pretty, compact, dropdown version. Well, it still his the menu after the upgrade, which is why I couldn’t find anything. I disabled it, since the new default menu is much more functional than the 2.6 version.

Of course, I’ve been working at Lexmark as a “contract-to-hire contingent worker” for around five years now, so the whole thing is a bit anticlimactic. After a few hours of orientation videos and paperwork, I’ll go back to my same desk, performing my same duties with the same co-workers and reporting to the same manager.

Yes, it’s all a bit ridiculous, but at this point I’m not complaining. Now I just have to figure out what to do for the next hour since my start time today is a full hour after my usual time.

I have a very strong hatred of grocery stores. Not just one particular chain of stores, but grocery stores in general. I hate them all, more and more every day. I have never, ever, not once, made a grocery run where the store I visited had all of the items I needed in stock. Never. I’m 29 now. I’ve been grocery shopping for myself for the past ten years now. And never once have a taken a list to the store and returned home with everything I needed.

To make things worse one branch of a store might carry three brands of a product, while another branch 3 miles away carries a completely different set of brands. My feeble human brain cannot comprehend this. If I can buy, say, Ole brand tortillas at one store, why can I not get that same brand at another store.

I’ve even begun to consider keeping a personal database of items and brands listed by available locations. This way I could easily manage my list of common items. A quick script could optimize my shopping, not only telling me the store, but placing the items in the proper order on the list so I don’t have to walk back and forth around the over-crowded, under-stocked maze of doom and despair once a week.

Yes, grocery stores must be part of some evil plot to control the human race. They just have to be. Nothing that purely evil, sinister, and unholy could come about on its own.

Welcome back! This site has lingered in no-update-land for a long time, and I finally decided it was time to quit being lazy. So here we are… WordPress has changed a lot since I last updated this site, so I decided to take the easy way out and completely reinstall it all from scratch. All my previous content still exists, you just can’t see it. I know, how will you possibly survive? I exported it all, and at some point I may re-import it. I don’t know though, it took me this long just to make it this far…

I’m still debating on the theme. At one point I was going to roll my own, but then I realized I was too lazy. I started searching, and then realized that there are a lot of crappy WP themes out there. So we’ll see…

The WP back-end is much improved, and much easier to use effectively. So hopefully I’ll remember to post ocassioanlly. Keep an eye out to see if that’s true.
