I snagged a new laptop at work, one that was a little more powerful then my aging Dell. To get started, I formatted the hard drive and began installing Windows XP. Windows is far from my first choice in operating systems, but I need at least one work machine that is officially IT supported, and for reasons I will never understand they don’t support Linux. Not officially at least. They all run Linux, BSD, or Solaris boxes but they don’t support anything other than Windows.

So after three tries (three!) I successfully installed XP and the Dell specific drivers. Then, I started the process of running Windows Update. That was yesterday. I’m now a few hours into today, and I’m not even close to finished. And I’ve only rebooted a dozen times…

Remind me again why anyone wouled actually choose to run Windows? Seriously… Please, please, please, for the love of all that is holy and good, check out Ubuntu!

It’s Monday morning. After being “unplugged” for the weekend, I hopped online this morning to find over 465 items in my Reader. I’m working my way through them slowly but surely. While I’m taking a break from not working, here’s what’s on my mind:

I have to return “The Road” to the library this week. I checked it out about a month ago, then read it in two nights. I literally had to force myself to put it down the first night I started. I wanted to just read it straight through, but knew work would have been rough that next morning. When I finished it, I held onto it, hoping that Mia might want to read it. I guess not… Whatever, my email reminder to return it soon made me remember what an amazing book it is.

Only a few more weeks until Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex drops. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you should really check it out.

I picked up Iron Man on Blu-ray last week, and it’s everything that high definition should be: crisp, beautiful video, ear-splitting explosions, and ball-numbing bass. Fun stuff, and a great movie. One of the better super hero flicks, check it out if you haven’t already.

I ordered some additional memory for my Acer Aspire One on Friday. It should get here today or tomorrow. In a fit of inspired planning, Acer made it about as difficult as possible to add RAM to the AA1, but it is possible. So I’ll be dismantling mine soon, and hopefully I’ll be able to get it back together. Should be fun.
